Meta fires employee after more than 7 years of service, he takes a career break to spend time with family - India Today

By Divyanshi Sharma: Mark Zuckerberg's Meta has fired thousands of employees since last year in order to cut down on costs and survive amidst a seemingly challenging economic environment. Earlier this year, Zuckerberg had termed 2023 as the 'year of efficiency' but little did the employees know that this would mean further job cuts at the company. From recruiters to software engineers and marketeers, employees from various departments got the axe and many of them went to LinkedIn looking for new opportunities. While some people wanted to get started with their next role as soon as possible, others took this time to pause and unwind. After all, in our daily lives, we don't really get a lot of time for ourselves or our families.

One such employee took to LinkedIn after his last working day at Meta and wrote that he will be taking a six week break to spend some quality time with his family.

Meta fires employee after 7.5 years of service

The ex-Meta employee spent nearly 7.5 years at the company and started working for Facebook back in 2016. Talking about spending 7.5 years at the company and getting fired, he wrote in his LinkedIn post, "Last Friday was my final day at Meta after over 7.5 years. Although it was not my decision to exit the door, it has come at a good time for me as I look to take a break for the next 6 weeks to spend quality time with my family."

He then added that his time at Meta was the most 'rewarding time' of his career as he achieved things he never thought were possible.

"This has been a most rewarding time of my career achieving things I never thought possible through transitioning in to automation development role and scaling my work to ultimately creating and hiring my very own team. Stepping in to a leadership role is something I truly encourage everyone to try at some point in their career. I wish I had done it sooner," he added.

Concluding his post on a rather positive note, he wrote, "As I take some time out I look forward ro my next adventure in the coming months. I will be open to new and exciting opportunities that I can adapt my skill set and I equally remain passionate about the areas I have thrived in social media over the last 10 years through Trust and Safety + Integrity spaces. Everything happens for a reason."

About Meta layoffs

Facebook-parent Meta announced its second round of layoffs, impacting 10,000 employees, in March this year.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in an email to his employees, "This will be tough and there’s no way around that. It will mean saying goodbye to talented and passionate colleagues who have been part of our success. They’ve dedicated themselves to our mission and I’m personally grateful for all their efforts. We will support people in the same ways we have before and treat everyone with the gratitude they deserve."

However, only 4,000 people got the layoff mail back then and the remaining 6,000 got to know about their fate in May. Previously, the company had fired 11,000 employees in 2022.
