PEORIA (25News Now) - A Bradford, Illinois woman and former employee of Maui Jim was sentenced Monday to a year and a day in prison, along with three years of supervised release and $125,472.48 in restitution.

Erica Lynn Hornof, 36, of the 300 block of Enterprise Drive, pleaded guilty in March to three counts of mail fraud and three counts of wire fraud.

At her hearing, the government presented evidence that Hornof was a long-term employee of Maui Jim and while employed as a lead frame repair trainer, she stole parts from the repair area to make sunglasses, packaged them with a cleaning cloth and warranty card, used her personal FedEx account to create shipping labels and then shipped them through the mailroom.

The sunglasses were sold to two buyers who then sold the sunglasses on the web.

According to a Department of Justice release, evidence established that over the 16-month period that she was selling the sunglasses, she received $104,860 from the two buyers.

Hornof told the FBI in a later statement that the two people did not know the sunglasses were stolen.

Judge James Shadid found she was responsible for selling around 2,996 pairs of sunglasses, each valued at $250, for an intended loss of $749,000 to Maui Jim.

She was indicted in August 2022 and released on a personal recognizance bond with conditions of pre-trial supervision.

She was ordered to report to her designated prison by 2 p.m. September 19.
