Kevin Vermeer, president and CEO of UnityPoint Health since 2016, is departing the organization for other opportunities, the Iowa-based health system announced Monday.
Vermeer's last day will be April 30. Sue Thompson, senior vice president of integration and optimization and CEO of UnityPoint Accountable Care, has stepped in as interim CEO as the board begins a nationwide search for Vermeer's replacement.
Vermeer has been with UnityPoint Health for about 20 years in various leadership positions including chief financial officer and chief strategy officer. During his tenure, he helped negotiate a formal partnership with UW Health. UnityPoint recently called off a proposed merger with Sanford Health.
Thompson has been in regional operations and clinical performance roles with UnityPoint Health for more than 30 years including as CEO of UnityPoint's Fort Dodge region.
UnityPoint Health reported an operating income of $65.7 million on $3.4 billion in operating revenue for the first nine months of fiscal year 2019.
