KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Western Michigan University's Board of Trustees approved labor agreements with two employee labor unions Thursday.
This comes after university and union staff members with the "Professional Instructors Organization" and the "International Alliance of the Theatrical Stage Employees" reached a new agreement Nov. 29.
Ratified Dec. 7, the previously approved agreement included a wage-bump to the unions' existing contract with Western Michigan University that runs through Aug. 27, 2025, according to university officials.
The remainder of the union's agreement was unaffected.
Thursday, WMU's Board of Trustees approved single payments to current union professors of increasing amounts for this semester, depending on the number of credit hours taught.
Union professors can expect to see a salary minimum rate of $1,190 per credit hour starting in Spring 2024, and a salary minimum rate of $1,265 per credit hour starting in Fall 2024, officials said.
In addition, the bonus paid to members when they first achieve "Instructor II" status increased to $100, according to WMU in a release.
This contract runs through summer 2025, a proposal provided by WMU detailed.
Union members through the "International Alliance of the Theatrical Stage Employees" will also see wage increases.
Members who are part-time stage workers for major productions at Miller Auditorium can expect to see a pay-bump ranging from $2.60 to $4.02 per hour, depending on the job classification.
This contract runs through June 30, 2026.
