An alleged shoplifter died after a fight with an employee at an Antioch supermarket Wednesday night, officials confirmed.
A 56-year-old employee at Lucky Supermarket on Contra Loma Boulevard told police that he caught a 34-year-old man attempting to steal from behind the butcher area, and the man attacked him.
A physical altercation ensued, and the alleged shoplifter became unresponsive, officials said.
Around 10 p.m., police and firefighters responded and began CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The employee was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.
It has not yet been determined if the man died from injuries sustained in the physical confrontation or if he had a medical emergency that led to his death, police said.
