New CEO selected for Rockledge-based organization serving those with disabilities - Florida Today

Board members with a non-profit organization serving hundreds of Brevard children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities named a new CEO to oversee operations beginning in April.

Keith Gee will move on from his position as executive director of the Children’s Hunger Project to be the next president of Bridges BTC, the Rockledge-based service organization that has multiple programs across the county.

“After an exhaustive national search, the Search Committee is very pleased with our selection of Keith Gee as the new President and CEO of Bridges,” said Robert Walters, a member of the Bridges board and chair of the Bridges CEO search committee.

“Keith’s expertise and energy will serve the organization and our community for years to come.”

The agency was started in 1956 and assists more than 400 clients each day, with services ranging from community daycare, residential group homes, transportation, and personal care.

Last year, the organization found itself dealing with the handling of a service worker who Rockledge police said had sexual contact with a severely disabled client.

The previous CEO of Bridges, David Cooke, resigned in 2019 following an independent review into the non-profit’s practices after it was learned Cooke allowed the caregiver to continue working.

The agency appointed Bonnie Rudolph, a long-time board member, as interim CEO and began the process to hire on a new president.

“Bonnie helped us right the ship at perhaps the stormiest time in our history,” said Bob Gabordi, chair of the Bridges board of directors and former FLORIDA TODAY editor.

“She has enabled us to continue to move forward. I know I speak for the entire board, the Bridges staff and management team and our clients and their families in expressing our gratitude for her work.”

Gee will join the agency on April 1. He headed the Children's Hunger Project — a non-profit agency based in Brevard that worked to provide free meals to 2,300 children last year.

Board members at Bridges touted his three decades of experience working with nonprofits while also focusing on the importance of revenue and administrative structure and management. Gee, former CEO of the Brevard American Red Cross from 2007 to 2010, has an MBA from Columbia Southern University in Alabama.

“We were looking for someone innovative and creative to help lead Bridges into a new era in our long history,” Gabordi said. He also credited Gee's work with the Children's Hunger Project with influencing the board's decision.

“We have seen firsthand Keith’s impact in the community and believe we have selected someone who can lead our organization as we begin a new chapter of serving the disabilities community, veterans and families.”
