Atlanta – Flooring giant Interface, Inc. has appointed the chairman of its board of directors to serve as interim president and CEO.
Dan Hendrix moved into the leadership role effective Jan. 20 upon the exit of Jay Gould, who was fired after “an investigation concluded that he engaged in personal behavior that violated company policy and core values,” Interface explained in a press release.
Interface said the leadership transition is unrelated to its operational or financial performance.
But according to its filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Interface’s board of directors voted to terminate Gould’s employment for “violations of the company’s working environment policies.”
In naming Hendrix to the CEO position, the board executed its leadership succession plan. The company will launch a search for for a successor CEO, looking at both internal and external candidates.
“Dan reassumes the leadership of this great company at a time of meaningful growth and strong financial performance, and the board has every confidence that he is the best leader to continue executing our strategic plan,” said Chris Kennedy, lead independent director of the board.
A 37-year veteran of Interface, Hendrix served as the company’s CEO from 2001 to 2017 and was succeeded by Gould.
“[Hendrix] has the right mix of familiarity, experience and passion for the company to lead us forward through this period of transition,” Kennedy continued. “Appointing Dan to this position will establish a tone at the top that the company’s shareowners, employees, customers, and partners expect.”
Added Hendrix: “We have strong momentum as we kick off 2020 and I am energized by this challenge.”
