YORK, Neb. (KOLN) - A former York Public Schools employee is in jail after being accused of inappropriately touching a student off campus.
The York County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to an alleged sexual assault on Tuesday. A school employee contacted deputies after a student alleged they had been touched inappropriately.
Hours later, deputies took Scott M. Velasquez-Lopez into custody on suspicion of two counts of third-degree sexual assault.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident did not occur on school property or at a school activity.
Superintendent Mitch Bartholomew said in a press release that Velasquez-Lopez was no longer employed with York Public Schools as of Wednesday. He had been employed with the school as a paraprofessional.
York Public Schools is aware of the recent allegations and arrest of one of our employees. This individual is no longer employed at York Public Schools.
To our knowledge, all allegations occurred off school property.
YPS will continue to work with the York County Sheriff’s office during this investigation.
