More than 7,900 Worcester city employees took home paychecks in 2022, collectively earning roughly $487 million, according to payroll records released to MassLive by municipal officials this week.
Sixty-seven employees earned gross pays that surpassed $200,000 last year. The vast majority of them were members of the Worcester Police Department, and the highest-paid worker, who earned nearly $290,000, was a police captain.
Of the 7,962 people on the community’s payroll, 1,127 Worcester employees made six-figure incomes in 2022, amounting to around 14% of city workers. The records showed 1,060 employees got paid between $100,000 and $200,000, and 67 workers earned between $200,000 and the top pay of nearly $290,000.
