WAYNE COUNTY, MI – Charges are pending against a Redford man who allegedly fled from police and tried to disguise himself as a Walmart worker, Michigan State Police said.

A state police helicopter was patrolling the area near Ford Road and Mercury Drive in Dearborn around 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, when troopers noticed a Dodge Charger driving recklessly.

Police tried to perform a traffic stop but the 20-year-old Redford man did not stop.

The MSP helicopter continued to follow the suspect’s vehicle – which was reported stolen – for about 45 minutes as it traveled around Wayne County roadways.

Police said the man parked in a Dearborn-area Walmart parking lot, fled inside the store, and tried to disguise himself as a Walmart employee.

The suspect was identified by troopers in the back stockroom and the suspect ran through the store again until he was taken into custody near the front door.

“This suspect pretty much checked all the boxes for what we have been seeing lately,” MSP Lt. Mike Shaw stated in a post on Twitter. “Reckless driving, failing to stop for police and having a stolen car. But again, you can’t outrun a helicopter, so now he is in jail.”
