VANCOUVER Wash. (KPTV) – Vancouver Public Schools announced on Thursday that they will be searching all district locker rooms and restrooms after a school employee was accused of recording girls in the Alki Middle School locker rooms.

On Wednesday, the school staff reported the possible voyeurism incident involving an employee information to police and closed the locker room at the school. Officials said by the time the incident was reported, the unnamed employee had left school grounds.

Clark County deputies made contact with the employee Wednesday afternoon, but they refused to cooperate with the investigation. Police searched their home and and seized several computers and other items.

School officials said they are searching all the district schools because of the employee’s role and access. The employee is currently on leave and their access has been revoked.

District superintendent Jeff Snell said student safety is priority.

“The trust that families give us When their kids come to us and so anytime we get any kind of challenge or threat to that, then we take it seriously,” Snell said. “Thinking about all of our campuses and just being proactive about that and doing a sweep of the locker rooms and restroom seems like it’s really appropriate. I would want that at the school my kids were at, and address maybe any concerns people will have.”

A Vancouver parent said she was disturbed and shaken by the discovery.

“I don’t trust the people now around these campuses, because I give my faith to every single one of these teachers and now, you know, it’s kind of that, you just you get let down - the trust is not there right now,” the parent said. “But I hope - I hope they can get to the bottom of it, because moving forward next week, do we want our children here?”

In a letter to the community, the district said they were were both angry and frustrated that this incident has happened.

“The trust you have placed in us to care for our community’s children and our staff has been disrupted,” the district said in the letter. “We want you to know we are deeply sorry for the impact this situation is having on individuals and our collective community.”

VPS are offering counseling support, and students and families are encouraged to reach out to their school leadership team for help.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said they’ve received full cooperation of the school for the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
