A New Zealand woman's last day at her job was blighted by a demeaning speech from her own HR department, according to an image that went viral this week.

The woman's partner shared a photo of the printed speech on Reddit's "Antiwork" forum Thursday, prompting a swift wave of outrage online. His anonymous post under the username u/AggravatingPlane8097 has garnered over 9,000 votes and hundreds of furious comments.

"This was the leaving speech given by the head of HR to my partner in front of 30 of the staff...she even printed it out," he captioned the image. "Two company directors present who did nothing but stood and laughed."

The shocking piece of paper started benignly enough, briefly describing the worker's early days with the company. "Everything was good, she was fast and accurate," said the speech.

However, the HR leader quickly launched into a hostile speech focused primarily on the employee's clothing.

"Then the first verbal warning came about," she allegedly read. "[Redacted] started turning up to work half dressed."

She detailed three outfits along with biting asides.

"Firstly bike pants and a sweatshirt (we weren't going biking)...then a skirt and a bikini top (we weren't going to the beach)...then high heels and a teeny weeny glittery dress—aka nightclub wear (we weren't going clubbing)."

She observed with cruel humor, "Each day she seemed to wear less and less clothing. Like she would wear a really nice skirt but forget to put a top on...I guess she was in a hurry."

The speech went on to claim that the worker's clothing distracted other colleagues from their jobs, making "construction ground to a halt on several projects."

The head of HR was forced to pull the woman aside and ask her to wear more clothes, she claimed. Only after this diatribe did she mention how the employee excelled at work and started "running the place."

The worker's furious partner told Reddit that most of the attacks were not even true. "HR lady even admitted to making a bunch of it up to make it funny," he said.

New Zealand's Human Rights Act 1993 defines sexual harassment as "any unwelcome or offensive sexual behaviour [sic] that is repeated, or is serious enough to have a harmful effect." That behavior may include "making sexual comments about appearance, clothing, or body parts," according to Employment New Zealand.

A 2018 survey by Statistics New Zealand found that 11 percent of employees reported experiencing discrimination, harassment or bullying at work in the past 12 months. Meanwhile, In the United States, a 2019 survey by Glassdoor found that 61 percent of employees had witnessed or experienced discrimination based on age, race, gender or LGBTQ identity at work.

The HR officer's speech sparked outrage on Reddit. Many readers urged the couple to seek legal counsel.

"Seriously, have your partner talk to a lawyer. That speech is slanderous and this written document is plainly libelous. It's intended to ruin her professional connections and career prospects. It's the company's way of hitting back at them for quitting," said one comment.

Another dumbfounded reader added, "No competent HR person could write, this it's blatant sexual harassment. Doing this in front of the entire staff is clearly creating a hostile work environment.

The woman's partner told Reddit that they believed the HR director had been fired—"only after I called them out," he said. "But the directors refuse to take any responsibility, they even threatened me with lawyers when I asked about what they were going to do to compensate her for the humiliation."
