WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar says he's staying on with company into 2022 - Realscreen

WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar has confirmed he’s staying with the company into 2022.

The decision comes following the recent surprise move by AT&T Inc. and Discovery, to merge WarnerMedia’s entertainment, sports and news assets with Discovery’s non-fiction and international entertainment portfolio. Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav was named as leader of the merged company, which would be comprised of “a best-in-class management team and top operational and creative leadership from both companies.”

After the merger announcement, Zaslav’s employment contract at Discovery was extended until 2027. But Kilar’s role — not mentioned in the original merger announcement — remained unclear. Still, Kilar informed staff last week during a town hall that he intends to continue in his role into next year.

“My plan and my focus is to remain here in my CEO role at WarnerMedia. I am not thinking right now about post-merger. There will be a time to consider that topic in 2022,” Kilar said, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.

“Because I believe we have unfinished business and the work of the next year can and should be extremely fulfilling as the world continues to see what we are capable of doing.”

Kilar was named WarnerMedia CEO in April of last year, with oversight of Warner Bros., HBO, Turner, Otter Media and HBO Max. Previous to that role, Kilar was co-founder and CEO of streaming service Vessel and served as CEO of Hulu from its launch in 2007 until 2013.
