PASCAGOULA, Miss. -- A second Jackson County employee has been charged with embezzlement for stealing equipment from the county road department.
Sheriff Mike Ezell said 39-year-old Charles Daniel Smith of Moss Point was taken into custody earlier this week and formally charged before posting $10,000 bond and being released from the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.
Two weeks ago, 35-year-old Wayne Smith of Vancleave was the first to be charged in the case. He is also free on $10,000 bail. The arrests are the result of a joint investigation between the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi State Auditor’s Office.
Ezell said all the stolen equipment has been recovered from pawn shops in the area. The investigation is ongoing and the case will ultimately be turned over the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
