Here are the questions we’re answering today:

What happened Thursday to the FirstEnergy Corp. CEO, amid multiple federal investigations related to the $1.3 billion Ohio nuclear bailout? The Akron-based utility company announced it terminated CEO Chuck Jones, effective immediately. The company promoted its president, Steven Strah, to acting CEO, while board member Christopher D. Pappas was named executive director.

How did Cuyahoga County defy all expectations and not go purple Thursday on the state coronavirus color chart? We dropped from six of the seven warning criteria tracked by the Ohio Department of Health to four. You have to meet six for two weeks, in order to go purple. That means that even if the situation worsens, the earliest possible dates that Cuyahoga, Clark and Hamilton counties could be put on the highest alert would be Nov. 12.

How can the U.S. Justice Department close its civil rights investigation into the Cleveland Police killing of Tamir Rice without ever actually doing any investigating? The Justice Department allowed a civil rights investigation into the police shooting death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in November 2014 languish, likely preventing charges from ever being filed in the case.

What is Ohio’s almost unimaginable new coronavirus record, and what does Gov. Mike DeWine say about it? The number of newly reported coronavirus cases on Thursday jumped to 3,590 new cases, about 700 more than the previous record on Saturday. DeWine said there’s nowhere to hide in Ohio.

What is Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson’s big move to battle racial inequity, something he has been talking about a lot in recent years? Jackson launched efforts Thursday to tackle head-on institutional racism and address the inequities that go with it, using a new division in Cleveland’s Department of Public Health.

How is a New York judge trying to undo the damage done by two robocallers who used sleazy tactics to discourage Black people in Cleveland from voting? He ordered them to call everyone back and say they lied.
