INDIANAPOLIS — People who recently visited Central Library in Indianapolis are asked to self-monitor for any symptoms of COVID-19 after an employee recently tested positive for the virus.
The employee last worked on July 20 and was sent home after learning they had been in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a press release from Indianapolis Public Library. On Saturday, administrators at the library found out the employee tested positive.
The employee did not have close contact with any patrons, however, those who visited the library between July 12-20 are encouraged to self-monitor for any symptoms, according to the release.
One other library employee is self-quarantining after internal contact tracing found they may have been within close contact with the employee who tested positive, according to the release.

“The safety of our staff and patrons is our priority, and we are confident that our safety protocols and workflows have mitigated risk,” Jackie Nytes, CEO of Indianapolis Public Library, said in the press release. “Nonetheless, we want to be transparent with the public while we all work as a community to safely navigate this pandemic.”
Several safety measures are taking place at all library branches.

"This is the first known instance of a public-facing staff person testing positive for COVID-19," the release read.
Possible COVID-19 exposures in the future at libraries will be posted on Indianapolis Public Library's website.
