The Wall Street Journal is gathering prominent leaders in business and politics, including several members of President Biden’s cabinet, at its CEO Council summit on Monday and Tuesday for discussions on how CEOs can best navigate the current political and economic climate and roll with the risks.
The event is being held as Mr. Biden wraps up his first year in office—with an infrastructure bill signed into law, Democrats negotiating over a roughly $2 trillion social-spending package, and the U.S. military, after withdrawing from Afghanistan, bolstering defenses on Guam to counter China in the Pacific. Businesses, meanwhile, continue to confront challenges stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic, amid the uncertainty of the Omicron variant, as well as inflation, trade tensions, cybercrime, the effects of climate change and regulatory changes afoot.
Highlights of the summit include conversations with Elon Musk, founder of Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, on technology’s new frontier; Pfizer Inc. Chief Executive Albert Bourla on the next chapter of Covid-19; Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on the administration’s plan to rebuild the country’s infrastructure; Secretary of State Antony Blinken on challenges to America’s position in the world; and Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) on breaking the political deadlock in Washington. These sessions will be streamed live either on wsj.com, the WSJ app, or on Twitter.
The event also features interviews with Citigroup Inc. CEO Jane Fraser, BP PLC CEO Bernard Looney, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley, economists and others.
