BENNINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The Bennington Police Department is dealing with an outbreak of the coronavirus among its force.
Five officers, including the police chief, and one civilian employee have been infected.
Bennington Town Manager Stuart Hurd would not say if anyone is hospitalized or in the ICU, but he did say some have a more serious case than others. He also added that everyone is recovering and doing better.
“Several people who we thought had come in contact with the individual tested negative, which is good. We really think that we have contained it. I think we’ve seen the worst that we are going to see and according to the chief, I spoke to him this morning, we expect to see some of the employees back to work next week,” Hurd said.
Hurd said some shifts had to change a bit, but with five officers out and 26 total, the department had plenty of officers to fill any gaps.
The police chief worked closely with the Vermont Department of Health to make sure proper protocols were followed, including contract tracing.
