FORT WAYNE Ind. (WTPA21) - After the redevelopment commission terminated their agreement with the developers of Electric Work, it affected the many business owners who were a part of the project including one area non-profit Joshua’s Hand.

"Joshua’s Work is about helping people get to work and finding their purpose in life so that they can walk that out and we can rebuild our community.”

CEO of Joshua Hand Cedric Walker, found his purpose by reaching out to minorities, woman and veteran business owners to help them find work through Joshua's Hand.

He says, the project might not be the same without the Electric Works building.

“This is the first time that we know in history in Fort Wayne that any contractor has come to the minority community and said we'll give you 15 percent of a 280-million-dollar project those are serious jobs and trades and careers for our community," Walker said.

Joshua Works is the workforce development division of the non-profit Joshua's Hand. The program is meant to reach out to minorities, woman and veteran business owners to help them find work.

This includes training in construction trades, developing connections with contractors, and helping people keep their jobs.

Developers of the project say without the Electric Works building they’ve lost a big job.

Walker says the program isn’t entirely lost though. H says opportunities like this don't come often he is still going to push forward to help people in his community get the training they need.

"We’re going to do this whether they allow electric works or now, we’re still going to get getting people hired, we’re going to get them trained,” Walker said. “Help them discover their shape, what they're gifted and talented to do and we’re going to get them to employers in the community.”

If you would like to get involved in the Joshua Works project you can register for their upcoming training sessions on their website joshuashand.org.
